I've added a new Shelfari bookshelf to our blog (it's down the right-had side) - we'll put our favourite books on there! So what are your favourite books? Leave a comment and we'll add the books onto our shelf!
During assembly time today, Isaac, Ceri, Molly and Sam G recorded their 100wc entries using Podium and then chose a song or sound effects to go in the background - you can listen to their recordings by clicking on the links below...
Molly and Isaac took part in a Live Writing session this evening, working with children from Maple Class, Brunswick House Primary School and Highlawn Primary School (amongst others!). A huge thanks to Mrs Brayford for hosting the session! There was a prompt based on soldiers preparing to fight in World War One. You can look at the whole session here.
Here is Molly's stunning piece of writing:
I could feel the mustyness of the wet trench tickling my nose. "All ready boys? Were going in..." I knew there was not turning back now... A sudden sudder shot straight up my weak spine, this was a matter of life or death... Suddenly a deathening boom shook the muddy trench, "Thats the sound of war boys.." Then I knew it was time.... " Over you go boys, its time to face the enemies." I shuddered in the freezing cold, knowing that I would soon lie on my death bed. The world kept on turning around me, I couldn't keep my balance. Before I knew it I was on the floor pouring blood. I dragged myself along the bloody battlefield, realising that my live was dangerously at risk. The floor shook violently as the terrific bombs exploded in the distance. I knew this was the end. Soon most of my team mate were lieing on the bloody battlefields with me, but some were still hanging on to there dear lives. Screams rattle my ears as was slowly dieing in pain and anger, I knew we were going to lose this dreaded war. Another bulit stuck me in the chest, I tried to scream for help but I simply didn't have enough breath.
And here is Isaac's wonderful piece:
I stood like a statue behind the only tree in miles. Suddenly flashes of light came past me, it was a bullet. I quickly got my heavily amoured machine gun out and started firing back, with my men all around me doing exactly the same. Many people were falling and dying, shouting out their last words at the same time. I could see a frightening Panzer tank charging over the hill. Steadily and slowly, its massive cannon was making its way around to shoot us. Was I going to die? Thankfully, one of my crew had brought a Sherman along to this attack. The Sherman happily (and luckily) fired directly at the Panzer and blew it up immediately! Our men quickly moved foward, we now had this one in the bag! With many people dead, we had won the battle at No Man's Land.
I'm hugely proud of the work both of you produced - well done!
We loved doing the Night Zookeeper 100wc this morning and have created some wonderful creatures for the zoo! I've chosen lots of our work for the 100wc this week, so you'll have to do me a big favour and make sure that you go out and comment on other children's work!
We have a video prompt this week from The Night Zookeeper! The need to watch the Zookeeper's video and then write a 100 word creative piece which either describes one of the creatures you saw in the video, or describes one which you have made up yourself (make sure you give it a name!).
For more information, you can visit www.nightzookeeper.com - who knows? One day he may visit Greenfields?!? :-)
Great news! We've got our 50th flag - visitors from fifty different countries - amazing! Our latest flag is from Jordan (not the model, the country in the Middle East!).
Hopefully we'll get lots more flags this term - to help us, make sure that you take a look at the blogging hints below!
Mr K :-)
Hi everyone - I thought that I'd just remind you of some of the things you need to think about when you're commenting on our blog (or any blog!):
1) Remember e-safety! First names only please :-)
2) The purpose of this blog is to share our wonderful work with the world - so remember that you need to use correct spellings and punctuation as much as you can and also use full sentences! Please don't use slang (comments with 'plz', 'lol', etc will not go on the blog - take pride in your blog comments!).
3) When you comment, start a conversation - pick out things you like, things you think could be improved (how could they be improved?) and ASK QUESTIONS - then you'll get answers!
4) Make sure that your comments are to do with the blog, this isn't the place for gossip! :-)
Remember that this blog has visitors from all around the world - you should be very proud that so many people want to see your amazing work! There are some more great tips for commenting on blogs here!
I thought I'd share a couple of the Magic Box poems we did before Easter. I've chosen Mya and Grace's - they are beautiful poems! I'll try to put the other fantastic poems on the site in a book soon! Click on the images to view a larger version...
I was so amazed by the fabulous Olympics projects you all did over the holidays - well done! Mr Morris and I have chosen our four favourites and they will receive a prize next week (when I'm back from my First Aid course!). next week we'll also choose our favourite of the ICT projects which were done - we'll also get them onto the blog!
So drumroll please for our winners...
Mya, Samantha, Callum and Lauren!
Well done!!!
Mya made a stunning piece of artwork based on the Olympic rings:
Samantha made an amazing and HUGE Olympic stadium that is so big that it's housing some of the other projects too!
Callum really used his imagination to create an ingenious set of Olympics Top Trump cards!
And Lauren mad a beautiful book about the Olympics!
This week I've chosen five 100 word challenges to go onto the blog - well done to Charlotte, Callum, Aaron, Jack W and Isaac! You can find their work by using the links below :-)
If you'd like your 100wc to go on the site - take your notebook home, type it up and email it in to me before Wednesday!
Hi everyone - it seems a while since we had a new prompt for the 100wc, but here it is!
On 23rd April it is St George's Day - he is the patron saint of England and legend has it that he once battled and killed a dragon. So... the prompt this week is:
...the dragon slowly stirred...
Your 100wc doesn't have to be to do with Saint George, but must include the words in the prompt, so you have 104 words in total!
Over the Easter break, the children in the class have been working on the Olympics homework - they had a free choice to do anything they like as long as it was to do with the Olympics.
I have to say that I'm bowled over by some of the fabulous pieces of work that arrived in class this morning - I'm proud of you, Ash Class!
There are also some amazing pieces of Olympics ICT work that I will share on here soon!
Mr K :-)
This term we'll be setting up our team of Digital Leaders - they'll be a small team of Year Five and Six children who will be responsible for:
- testing out new tech in school;
- helping to train other children and adults (are you confident and patient?!)
- helping to decide what tech we should have in school;
- posting your discoveries and expertise onto the Greenfields Digital Leaders' Blog;
- and also contributing to the Digital Leader Network Blog.
Once you've completed the form, you will also need to create something using ICT which demonstrates why you would be a good Digital Leader - it could be a video, presentation, animation, blog - anything! You will need to email this to Mr Kenyon at ash.greenfields@gmail.com or greenfields.dls@gmail.com
When the applications are in, we'll choose a shortlist of candidates to interview (don't worry - not a scary interview!).
The deadline for applications is Friday 27th April - good luck!
Here's a fantastic new project from the National Trust - 50 things to do before you're 11 and 3/4! Well I'm 32 and I've not managed all of them yet (45 out of 50's not bad!) - maybe you'll do better! Click on the image below for a larger version of the list. You can also visit the National Trust's 50 Things website for more information. I wonder how many of them we've managed to do - make sure you stay safe doing them!!!
Just a quick post to remind you about your Olympics homework - remember that's it's due in on the first day back - I'm looking forward to seeing what's been created!
If you want to let us know how you're doing, just leave a comment on this post. Remember that your work doesn't have to be done on a computer; it could be a model or a piece of art - it's up to you!
Mr K :-)
Remember that this term we will be working as architects and designers, completing a project to design an apartment for the Olympic Village using Google Sketchup. This will involve lots of creativity, but also patience and accuracy! Sketchup is a free programme that can be used to design very simple objects all the way up to huge skyscrapers! If you can, dowload the software at home (ask parents first!) and have a play - see what you can discover!
Here's a quick preview of the sort of thing I hope we can produce (I know yours will be much, much better!):
Wow! This afternoon we passed the 10,000 hits mark for our blog - that's an amazing achievement by all of you because those 10,000 visits have been because of ONE thing - people wanting to see your fabulous work! Let's go for 20,000 by the end of the year! :-)
EVEN MORE IMPORTANTLY...
I wanted to say a huge thank you to Molly and Isaac for the many excellent comments they've been leaving on our 100 word challenges this week (week 26 - you can find the posts here and here) - do have a look because they're a super example of how to make really interesting and productive comments, picking out all the good parts but also some bits that can be improved. Moreover, they highlight any mistakes sensitively and sensibly so that the writers can use their advice to improve their work in the future - well done guys!
I signed up our class blog to a project called 'Blogadopt' - basically it means that different class blogs are paired up so that the classes can comment on each other's work. Our new partner is Class 5T at Broadmeadow Junior School in Birmingham (pretty close to where I used to work!) and their blog address is here:
