Borth!

Let's hope the weather's not like this!
That's more like it!
So it's nearly time for our trip to Borth - is everyone packed and ready? I'm not!
Here's where we're staying - Borth Youth Hostel - you can click on the link to see their website.
And here's a link to the weather forecast - remember to pack those waterproofs!!!
We'll try to keep in touch via the blog while we're away, but it depends on if the internet's working at the hostel (it hasn't for the past two years!!!).

KS2 Shrewsbury Olympics!

We had a fantastic day at the Sports Village on Friday 29th June for the Shrewsbury KS2 Olympics. Mr Holmes, Mr Kenyon, Mrs McClure and Mr Hughes took a group of children who had a great time, taking part in Tri-Golf, Athletics, Cricket, Archery, BMX, Boccia and Wheelchair Basketball! A huge thanks to the parents who drove the children over to the Sports Village and an even huger thanks to the children, who competed and behaved fantastically!

Mya's 100 Word Challenge- Week 35

The noise was terrifying but I managed to sprint out of the house with little strength in my body. My head was throbbing and my ears ached. Cold air flooded into my lungs and I felt the cool breeze blow on my red face. Safe. At last. Though not for long . A sharp screech pierced the air and shot into my ears. The sound made my skin crawl. A shadowy figure emerged from the darkness. “Oh no” I said aloud a gravelly cackle came from the figure in the doorway. I completely froze, my legs wouldn’t move. She came for me then. Right then.

Molly's 100 Word Challenge- Week 35

My feet crunched through the undergrowth of Vines Wood. I knew I was being followed, I kept on hearing footsteps padding behind me, every time I stopped, they stopped. Suddenly, there was a deafening squeal. The noise was terrifying but I soon realised it was just my mind making up things. I look around, and all that I can see is trees, they’re surrounding me. I shut my eyes, hoping that everything will go away. I was right, everything did go away. Now, I’m in complete darkness. No one to see, nothing to do. I’m slowly dying, I’m fading away…

Film - Don't judge a book by its cover!

Don't Judge a Book... from Ash Class on Vimeo.
Here's the wonderful film the class made based on the work they did on Darwin Day - we had talked about stereotypes and not judging people without getting to know them. The children, Mrs Duly and I then came up with a list of people who may be judged by many people, but may have a surprising side to them!
We hope you enjoy our film - do leave us a comment if you do!

We take over Pass the Blog!

Exciting news! This week Ash Class are taking control of the 'Pass the Blog' website. We will be able to show of our work throughout the whole week, before the blog is passed on to another class in another school!

Pass the Blog is a project where a single blog is shared between 52 schools over the course of 52 weeks. Each  class involved has control of the blog for a week only - I have a teacher log-on and there will be a pupil one for you all to use too!

By the end of the year, the blog will have been passed around schools all over the world! I think that this is a fantastic project and I can't wait for us to show off what we can do!

We are only the second class to take control of the blog - if you want to see what the first class got up to, then click on the picture below!

Heading Home!

Hi All,
Well our holiday is almost over and it has been the most fantastic experience. The weather has been perfect and when we were having our lunch yesterday we saw some dolphins. We have been told that all the left over food is pulped down and when the ship is a certain distance from the shore the pulped food is discharged into the sea and it helps to feed the fish and other marine life. All the paper, glass, batteries etc, are sorted just as at the recycling plants on land and dealt with in the same way once the ship reaches the shore.
On our visit to Barcelona we saw a church that was designed by Gaudi, they started building it in 1892 and guess what? They are still building it and it will not be completed until 2026, it is called La Sagrada Familia.
Tomorrow we arrive in Southampton and as part of the Queen's Jubilee Celebrations, The Queen Elizabeth will meet up with her sister ships, the Queen Mary 2, the most senior and Queen Victoria, just off of Cowes on the Isle of Wight and they will sail up the Solent in formation with the senior ship leading the way.  Then late in the evening the three ships will all set sail together back down the Solent before going their different ways.  As part of the celebrations it is anticipated that lots of small boats will come out and join us on our journey up the Solent, this is the first time that all three Cunard Ships have been together in UK waters.  Later in the day the Red Arrows and Fireworks will also be part of the fun.
Photographs will be following!

Olympic Torch relay hits Shrewsbury!

On Wednesday the whole school walked to town to see the Olympic Flame work its way through Shrewsbury - all the children should be very proud of themselves as they were a credit to the school (especially during the hour-long wait!).

Ash Class - if you'd like to write a report on the Torch Relay, email it to me and I'll add it to this post!

Monaco!!!

Lauren's granny & grandpa have arrived in Monaco, only a few days after the F1 grand prix was held there!
Here's a photo they sent of the grand prix grandstands being dismantled and their latest update is below:

Hi again,
We have arrived here this morning, the sun is shinning and it is just a few days after the finish of the Grand Prix.  There is still has a lot of disruption around the streets,  with barricades and seats being dismantled.  Will send a few photographs separately.  We went ashore in tenders lowered from the side of the ship as there are no docking facilities for cruise ships in Monaco.  We walked around the harbour and up to the famous Casino that is at Monte Carlo and sat in the sunshine at the Cafe du Paris, next door to the Casino and enjoyed a coffee before walking back to the ship.  We are now waiting for the last of the tenders to be hoisted up and we will be setting sail for Barcelona.  We hope you have a good week off school and all enjoy yourselves, we will continue to keep in touch and you should have another email waiting on your return to school.
