Heading Home!

Hi All,
Well our holiday is almost over and it has been the most fantastic experience. The weather has been perfect and when we were having our lunch yesterday we saw some dolphins. We have been told that all the left over food is pulped down and when the ship is a certain distance from the shore the pulped food is discharged into the sea and it helps to feed the fish and other marine life. All the paper, glass, batteries etc, are sorted just as at the recycling plants on land and dealt with in the same way once the ship reaches the shore.
On our visit to Barcelona we saw a church that was designed by Gaudi, they started building it in 1892 and guess what? They are still building it and it will not be completed until 2026, it is called La Sagrada Familia.
Tomorrow we arrive in Southampton and as part of the Queen's Jubilee Celebrations, The Queen Elizabeth will meet up with her sister ships, the Queen Mary 2, the most senior and Queen Victoria, just off of Cowes on the Isle of Wight and they will sail up the Solent in formation with the senior ship leading the way.  Then late in the evening the three ships will all set sail together back down the Solent before going their different ways.  As part of the celebrations it is anticipated that lots of small boats will come out and join us on our journey up the Solent, this is the first time that all three Cunard Ships have been together in UK waters.  Later in the day the Red Arrows and Fireworks will also be part of the fun.

Monaco!!!

Lauren's granny & grandpa have arrived in Monaco, only a few days after the F1 grand prix was held there!
Here's a photo they sent of the grand prix grandstands being dismantled and their latest update is below:

Hi again,
We have arrived here this morning, the sun is shinning and it is just a few days after the finish of the Grand Prix.  There is still has a lot of disruption around the streets,  with barricades and seats being dismantled.  Will send a few photographs separately.  We went ashore in tenders lowered from the side of the ship as there are no docking facilities for cruise ships in Monaco.  We walked around the harbour and up to the famous Casino that is at Monte Carlo and sat in the sunshine at the Cafe du Paris, next door to the Casino and enjoyed a coffee before walking back to the ship.  We are now waiting for the last of the tenders to be hoisted up and we will be setting sail for Barcelona.  We hope you have a good week off school and all enjoy yourselves, we will continue to keep in touch and you should have another email waiting on your return to school.

Stopping off in Gibraltar!

Hi Everyone in Ash Class,

We arrived in Gibraltar yesterday morning and after lunch went on a visit to Europa Point and St Michael's Cave which is a natural carven with stalagmites and stalactites and they
sometimes hold concerts there because the sound is so good.

We also met the apes, there are five colonies of apes living on the rock and they are all called after members of the royal family or important people.  Gibraltar belongs to Britain and history has it that as long as the apes remain on the rock it will remain British, so the people of Gibraltar look after the apes very well indeed!   One of the ladies bought an ice cream and as she walked out of the shop an ape landed on her shoulder and made off with the ice cream.

When we were in Gibraltar we could see North Africa.  Do any of you know what the Twin Pillars of Hercules are?  Another question how wide and how long are the Straits of Gibraltar?

A new message from out at sea!

Hi all,

Another day at sea.  We left Southampton at about 5pm on Wednesday, a lovely sunny afternoon, fellow passengers were milling about on the decks and a Calypso Band played on the Lido deck where one of the swimming pools is situated.  Through the night we sailed down the English Channel and just before 6am we passed Lle d'Ouessant  on the north west point of France and into the Bay of Biscay.  All of yesterday was spent sailing through the Bay of Biscay and at times you could feel the boat swaying, the Captain called it a 'low swell' - the waves were about 2.5metres in height,  the motion on the boat is similar to that of flying in an aeroplane.

During the night we left the Bay  Biscay after rounding Cape Finisterre and are now sailing parallel to the Spanish and Portuguese coasts Heading for Cape Vincent after which we will take a south easterly course for Gibraltar. There is not a lot to see but sea and the odd ship in the distance.

Our Olympic Medallists!

I was so amazed by the fabulous Olympics projects you all did over the holidays - well done! Mr Morris and I have chosen our four favourites and they will receive a prize next week (when I'm back from my First Aid course!). next week we'll also choose our favourite of the ICT projects which were done - we'll also get them onto the blog!

Samantha made an amazing and HUGE Olympic stadium that is so big that it's housing some of the other projects too!

Lauren's 100wc - week 25.

“Mum I am going to town!” roared Mya. “Ok, see you later!” I got my coats on and stared to set off to town. Finally I got to town and stared at this lovely store with all these cuddle teddy bears. “Wow!” gasped Mya. I ran to the shop and went though the crooked door I was expecting a bright lovely shop but it was dull as black I went up the creepy stairs when BANG I fell on the floor all of a sudden someone whispered, “how can I help  you?” Mya wailed, “who are you?” “Where have you come from?” Mya screamed.

Lauren's 100wc - week 23

I was playing in the soft, long grass when the sun went behind the clouds. When everyone was gasping, “HELP!” in my head, then my mum roared, “The weather it’s changed for the worst of it!” I ran in my small house, the storm came and sucked it up, went bashing though my tiny house and burned it up. Within a second all of my wardrobe fell on me, “AHHH!”

The sun was going straight though my window and I was little, not even little, smaller then smaller then smaller. “What am I going to do now?” I sighed. Mum sighed ”please help me now…”

The road was very long, but very busy Half of the people had hot chocolate, and the others were watching the animals: pandas, sea lions and rhinoceros. I was looking at the baby penguin’s silky beak around the chain metal fence. All of a sudden, a massive crowd of people rushed over to the gate that was open. All the penguins started to escape. I was walking down the narrow road it had started… Suddenly everyone started to jump into their houses, but some people fell into the hole. “How is this happing to me?” As a walked to the dusty hole I saw my mum in there, she was really far down. I tried to get a rope but it was no use. I tried so hard but I also fell down too. "HELP PLEASE” it was no use, nobody could hear me scream for help from down here. Suddenly I saw some blue and red flashing lights I saw a ladder coming downhill I got hold of my mum and lifted her up and stared to climb the wobbly ladder. When I got to the top I saw my mum crying her eyes out so I ran up to her and gave her big huge hug. The nice police man gave her some tissue and put around her shoulders a blanket. Then suddenly the dusty hole disappeared and we went back to our house, my dad was there, we both ran up to my dad and gave him a big huge hug.
